Sheffield Wednesday

Dog & Partridge
A cold and frosty morning as we left Ewood for our trip to Sheffield and our game with Sheffield Wednesday. This was one of those days that you are glad someone else is driving and you can sit back and enjoy the countryside and this was certainly one of those. The views as we crossed the Snake Pass were magnificent and the good weather and winning the last two games raised the spirits of our merry group. There are not many pubs on our away trips that match the Dog and Partridge for serving excellent food and the meal today was exceptionally good. The pre-Christmas cheer extended by the pub was also apparent when Bill Poole came back with Bene's big enough to fill a pint glass as the bartender didn't use a spirits measure. On to the game and the betting placed with Andy and Mel pointed to a Rovers victory and we arrived at Hillsborough with the optimism of General Custer, this would be an easy game with one winner. Unfortunately no one told Sheffield Wednesday and as with Custers Indians they gave us a trouncing. They were one up in 5 minutes and although Szmodics got one back we ended up losing 3-1and our chance of slipping into a play off position diminished as fast as our managers trip from the dugout to the stands as he got red carded.
